Recently updated a WordPress site to WordPress Ecommerce 3.8. After doing so I noticed that when I tried to checkout, I got this message:

“Please enter a Zipcode and click calculate to proceed”

Problem was, the shipping calculator was gone! No sign of it. After unsuccessful Googling and WPEC forum digging I was still stuck. Then I remembered, during the updating process, WPEC copied my old WPEC theme files to my WP theme folder.

So what, right? WRONG. The 3.7.x version I was using was not compatible with 3.8.x!

Here’s what you do:

Backup the wpsc_shopping_cart_page.php file from your theme directory (In case you have markup customization you need to refer to).

Download the file wpsc_shopping_cart_page.php from /wp-content/plugins/wordpress-e-commerce/wpsc-theme/

Upload it to /wp-content/themes/your-theme-directory/

Profit!

Micah M. aka Type Micah over at A Collective has relaunched Meme Engine as a t-shirt shop. As a web designer, There Is No Page Fold caught my eye. His apt description of this meme:

In the web design world, the “fold” is a term clients often use when referring to the bottom of their browser window. It stems from printed media; many newspapers are folded before they are stacked, thereby making everything “above the fold” desirable in terms of placement. Online, however, it just doesn’t work that way. Unfortunately, many people are slow to realize this and so, a meme was born.

Embrace the scroll!

We use WordPress as a CMS, and not every site we make has a blog integrated into it. Those who are familiar with the admin interface of WordPress 2.8 know that the first menu item on the left is “Posts” and I wanted to change that to “Pages” so that it would make more sense for the clients who don’t have any posts. Thankfully this is actually really easy to do in WordPress 2.8 and above, so I created a simple plugin that does just that, it’s called Pages On Top. Here’s what it does:

Download Pages On Top

jQuery UI 1.7 was recently released. The new release features jQuery 1.3 compatibility, a better core architecture, and major theming improvements, including a new progress bar plugin.

In addition to this, it looks as if every plugin developed for it has been optimized to produce a better HTML output for a more flexible usage, a good thing for designers.

jQuery 1.7 comes with a new CSS framework that supports both jQuery UI plugins & any custom one to be developed Rather than the layout, the framework is concentrated on the UI design.
